"The Great Fire of Rome", Nero blamed the Christians and started persecuting them. Seneca said that Nero sentenced Christians to die by tunica molesta, a naptha impregnated "shirt of torture." On the ruins of the centre of the city, Nero builds his Golden House.
66 AD
Nero tours Greece and Vespasian is present (falls asleep in Nero's recital!). Revolt break out in Judea, Vespasian is put in charge of subduing it.
68 AD
Galba revolts and Nero commits suicide. Galba declared Emperor.
69 AD
Year of the Four Emperors. Galba is killed, Otho attempts to seize the Empire, but is opposed by Vitellius. Otho dies and Vitellius is opposed by Vespasian. Vitellius dies and Vespasian becomes Emperor.
70 AD
Titus Caesar captures Jerusalem & destroys the Second Temple (on the Mount).
Falco first employed by Camillus Verus. Sent to Britain and meets Helena (mutual dislike).
Vespasian and Titus in a joint Triumph through Rome, celebrating the Judean campaign.
Falco & Helena fall in love. Falco nearly gets promoted to Equestrian rank. A conspiracy is solved in Campania. A murderous wife case is solved and Falco gets sent to Germania. Titus Caesar expresses interest in Helena.

Falco solves a mystery caused by his deceased brother Festus and is accused of murder. Gets sent to Palmyra and joins a travelling theatre to solve a murder and write plays ("The Spook Who Spoke" is written during this time). In Rome Falco helps fight organised crime. Unexpected family matters arise.
Emperor Vespasian orders a census to assess the population for tax purposes! Masada, the last Jewish fortification, is finally conquered by the Romans.
Falco sent to Corduba to investigate murder and an olive oil cartel. The Didius family grows. In Rome a serial killer is on the loose, and later in the year Falco becomes an official Censor, specialising in the wildbeast/Gladiatorial trade.
Antonia Caenis, Vespasian's long-term mistress, dies. Her steward Auglus erects a memorial to her, near her villa at the Praetorian gate.
Falco travels to North Africa as a Censor, plus he has an unofficial mission to carryout. Later in the year Falco has to solve a mystery surrounding the Vestal Virgin lottery, and a murder in a library.
Following the safe birth of Falco's second child, the family travels to Britannia to solve problems with King Togidubnus' new palace. Before going home he stops in Londinium and solves a mystery involving an old adversary.
June: Vespasian dies following a brief fever & is deified. Titus becomes Emperor. August 24th: Vesuvius erupts, destroying much of the Campania coast (inc. Pompeii & Herculaneum).
